World AIDS Day

Today is World AIDS Day. Bloggers around the globe are participating in this event by posting articles on their sites to help raise awareness and to encourage people to get tested. One million Americans and 33 million people world-wide live with AIDS. I knew this was an epidemic, but I didn’t realize the scope until I read a few articles at AIDS.gov. There’s no cure for AIDS/HIV, but early detection can help those infected live longer, healthier lives. According to Miguel Gomez, director of AIDS.gov, “Stigma continues to be one of the biggest obstacles to tackling this epidemic--many people still aren’t willing to talk about HIV or take an HIV test.” Here’s a link to the activities sponsored by AIDS.gov in support of this awareness effort. I encourage you to visit the links in this post and learn more about this disease. Please share this information with your family and friends and ask them to pass it on.
