Consistency in Writing

“There is no security, no assurance that because we wrote something good two months ago, we will do it again." – Natalie Goldberg in Writing Down the Bones.
Two months ago? How about two days ago? This may be one of the most frustrating things about being a writer. I believe I mentioned before that I was a professional trumpet player a number of years ago. I reached a level where I was certain of my ability to play a piece consistently. I don’t feel that with my writing. In fact, some days it feels like I’ve never written anything before.
