“As you write, and especially as you re-write, you need to be aware of the conflict in your story. Rarely do authors have to lessen the conflict. Usually, the problem is revving it up.” – Helen Ginger in Conflict.Guilty! When I write a first draft of a short story, I introduce a character with a goal/problem and resolve the issue by the end. My initial rewrites deal with wording, character consistency, and story flow issues. Often, it's not until I've trudged my way through many revisions that I get around to dealing with the lack of conflict in the middle of the story. I guess it's time for a new sticky on my monitor.
