Using the Senses

“Do you want to entice your reader from the beginning? Then you better ZEST your writing voice, using as many of the five senses as possible.” -- Lea Schizas (Managing Editor of Apollo's Lyre) in “Author Editor love/hate Zesty Relationships.”
I don’t do a good job of including all the senses in my writing, even with a sticky on my monitor to remind me. True, the majority of my stories are under 1000 words, but that’s no excuse. Using the senses draws the reader into the story. I know this. I just need to work harder at remembering to check the senses I use as I rewrite a story.

NOTE: In this article, Lea asks five published novelist how their manuscripts changed during the collaboration process with their editors.
