Cumulative Omniscient POV

“I call it cumulative omniscient because none of the characters has the whole story, but the reader gets more of the story than any of the characters have one by one.”  -- Janet Burroway in “Building from ideas, details and honesty. [The Writer, December 2009]

This is a point of view I haven’t encountered before. I’m not sure what the difference is between this and writing individual chapters from each characters’ P.O.V. in third person. Perhaps if I read the book I’ll understand. I do like the idea of each character providing the reader with his or her viewpoint on the story. If done well, the reader should have a deeper understanding of what’s going on.
